3.6 Creston Public Library Internet Policy
In keeping with written policy and goals the Creston Public Library will endeavor to provide free public access to Internet service.
a. - Content Access
All members of the public, including children, will have access to workstations with no content limitations.
The library affirms the responsibility of parents/legal guardians to monitor their children's use of Library materials and resources. Parents are encouraged to work closely with their children in selecting and viewing material that is consistent with personal and family values and boundaries.
b. - Confidentiality
The same confidentiality of standards and procedures that apply to other library/public transactions will apply to the use of Internet resources.
c. - Internet Disclaimer
The Creston Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the accuracy, timeliness, or appropriateness of the information accessed through the Internet nor can it be held responsible for its content. As with other library materials, restrictions of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian.
Infringement of copyright is prohibited. Possession and/or distribution of some materials found on the Internet may be illegal under Canadian Law. The Creston Public Library assumes no responsibility for any direct or indirect damages arising from the use of its connection to Internet services.
Any person misusing or damaging the computer, or using the Internet for illegal purposes may have their library privileges suspended, be prosecuted, and be financially liable for damage to the equipment.
d. - Review
Creston Public Library Internet policy will be reviewed annually by the board.
