CRESTON PUBLIC LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ORGANIZATION AND POLICY MANUAL
4.2 PARTNERSHIPS AND DISPLAYS
- CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS
- Creston and District Public library may enter into a corporate partnership with an outside organization if the arrangement is designed to benefit both parties and is built around a specific program, service or operation of the library.
- The partnership provides the outside organization with ongoing recognition through public awareness for a predefined period of time, while providing financial or other benefits to the Library. The outside organization has the right to promote their involvement with the Library as approved by the Library Board.
- Potential partnerships will only be considered with organizations and arrangements made which are deemed appropriate and compatible with the policies, goals and values of the Library. The Board will only enter into partnerships determined to be in the best interest of the Library. Approval of any corporate partnerships will be determined at a regular meeting of the Board.
- The Chief Librarian shall determine the financial value of a partnership, its length and terms of payment, and make a recommendation to the Board.
- Terms and conditions of corporate partnership shall be outlined in a written agreement between the parties. No partnership relationship shall exist without such agreement. The agreement will be written by the Librarian and the Board on the Creston and District Public Library letterhead.
- When presenting a potential partnership to the Board, the Chief Librarian shall provide the Board with the following information:
- nature and product(s)/service(s) of the company
- information on the company's history and ownership
- reason for the company's interest in the Library
- the program/service around which the partnership will be based
- partner's expectation of performance by the Library
- a written proposal, for Board consideration, prepared by the Chief Librarian to be signed by the potential partner
- Creston and District Public Library supports formal recognition of partnerships. This recognition will be determined by the Board based on recommendations by the Chief Librarian and will form part of the agreement.
- The Library shall not enter into a partnership agreement with a direct competitor of an existing partnership unless it is jointly agreed upon.
- The Library reserves the right to terminate an existing partnership at any time.

- POSTERS AND DISPLAYS BY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
- The Library will post/distribute posters, flyers, and brochures for non-profit organizations providing the material is acceptable for posting and space permits. Guidelines for posting are as follows:
- Posters, handouts, etc. which advertise the date of an event must be deposited no less than two weeks prior to the date of the advertised event.
- Materials accepted for possible display become the property of the Library. The Library is not responsible for th return of brochures or display materials left on its premises.
- The Library is committed to the distribution and availability of the widest range of material for the use of Library patrons. This policy is in conformance with the Canadian Library Association Intellectual Freedom Statement and does not imply the apporval or endorsement of any of the material distributed.
- The Library will not distribute material that is primarily commercial and does not have compensating cultural or community importance.
- The Library has the sole discretion to decide what is distributed.
- The Library will post/distribute posters, flyers, and brochures for non-profit organizations providing the material is acceptable for posting and space permits. Guidelines for posting are as follows:
- MATERIALS NOT SUITABLE FOR POSTING OR DISTRIBTUION
- Advertising or endorsement of private or corporate business whose main purpose is profit unless the Library has an existing partnership agreement with this business.
- Material as large in size as to exclude posting of other items.
- Material which omits essential information such as the date, time, place or fee.
- Materials which would violate the B.C. Human Rights Act.
- Petitions not directly related to Library service.
- Political posters for individual political parties or candidates.
