Help

We are still looking for Home Service volunteers with some time to spend searching out material in the library for homebound patrons, delivering it to their home and picking up items to be returned. We do require volunteers undergo a criminal record check. If you are interested in joining our volunteers out in the community, please call 250 428 4141 and ask for Ann.

Film News

Films to Make You Think.

Creston Public Library celebrates Freedom to Read Week (February 21st-27th) by presenting two films during the month of February based on banned books.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee follows three years in the life of 8-year old Scout Finch, her brother, Jem, and their father, Atticus, and how they were affected by the arrest and eventual trial of a young black man accused of raping a white woman. Black parents and teachers in Nova Scotia objected to this novel and two others in 2002 because of derogatory language which might cause black students to be mocked because of racial stereotyping.

The release of the film version of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code faced protesters at several movie theaters across the United States on opening, citing it as blasphemy and claiming that it shames the Catholic Church, and banned from several countries with large Christian populations. The story examines the continuation of the blood line of Christ and Mary Magdalene, and challenges traditional reading of Christian Theology.

Open to ages 16 and over. The films show Saturday, February 6th (To Kill a Mockingbird) and Saturday, February 20th (The Da Vinci Code) at 2:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. Please phone the library at 428-4141 or email ill.creston@crestonlibrary.com for more information.
